The Colloquium on Information and Communication Technology, Education and Training and the Production of Graduates held on 19 March 2007 resulted in the Birchwood Declaration.
Article V of the Birchwood Declaration called for the Computer Society of South Africa (CSSA) and the South African Institute of Computer Scientists and Information Technologists (SAICSIT) to arrange a “think-tank” to bring together leaders to set strategic goals for ICT research and innovation (that is, identify “grand challenges” for ICT research in South Africa).
Following discussions with SAICSIT and the organisers of the annual SAICSIT Conference, it was decided to hold the First National Workshop on ICT Grand Challenges at a time and venue to coincide with the SAICSIT Conference and M and Ph.D Conference.
Organised by Rhodes University in collaboration with the Department of Education.
Workshop Chair: Prof D Sewry
Organising Committee: Mr K Rafferty & Dr K Bradshaw.
