5 November 2005: CANSA Shavathon 2005
Rhodes CS and IS Staff and Students Dare to Go Bare!
Staff and students from the Department of Computer Science were among those to lose their hair for a good cause on Saturday 5 November. The annual CANSA Shavathon challenges people to have their hair shaved in order to raise funds for cancer research and to support cancer patients.
This event was particularly significant for the Computer Science staff and
students this year as a member of the Honours class, John Richter, has recently
been diagnosed with leukaemia and is currently undergoing treatment in Cape
Town. Coincidentally, the Saturday of the Shavathon was the day that
John's hair started to fall out as a result of the chemotherapy.
